Module One

The Size Up

The Size Up includes a detailed consultation, which would take place after our introductory conversation, to help you get as clear a picture as you can about the way forward. This is our chance to get to know you, your stories and your values and to identify which possessions are your favourites. We will also need to establish how much space you will have in your new home. From there, it’s easier to make ‘least regret’ decisions.

We will take an unhurried look at what you have now and then start the sorting. Depending on your needs, we can also take measurements and draw up a space plan of your new home so that you can get an idea of how much you can take with you. There are three questions we’ll need to answer:

What do you want to keep?

Consultation with other family members is advised

What would you like to donate?

To family, friends or charity

What would you be happy to sell?

We provide a valuating service and advise on a differentiated course of action based on the type of your goods on the current market

Module Two

The Clear Up

Once the sorting is completed and your “keepers” have been put aside, we facilitate the next steps in clearing up what’s left.

For the things you want to donate, we can arrange shipping to family members and assist with collections/transport of other items to charities of your choice.

There will be some things that you will want to discard. We will assist with the disposal of unwanted goods.

For the sale of goods, based on our experience with antiques and collectables, we can assist with valuations as well as act as a point of contact for sales.

Regarding finding a market for your valuables, it is important to bear two things in mind: one is to be very realistic about the value of goods sold on the secondhand market. Not all items hold their original value well; this is often determined by trends and generational preferences. On the flip side, hold onto the thought that the objects that you are letting go of can spark joy for somebody else.

We will support you through your decisions and the dispersal of belongings and will arrange for your goods to be transported to – or collected by – auction houses, charities or other parties. NOTE: We charge a commission/handling fee of 15% for the total sold at auction. Regarding sale of goods, our model provides for the following options:

Method

Positives

Points to consider

Self sale

We provide you with valuations, and you sell the goods yourself through e.g. Facebook Marketplace, community groups

  • You are in control, money comes directly to you without any commissions
  • Negotiation with buyers is possible
  • Administrative burden and risk of dealing with buyers
  • Need to store goods until sold
  • May not sell

Facilitated sale through auction

We recommend relevant auction houses and facilitate consignment and delivery of goods

  • Easy option as all all the nitty-gritty is taken care of
  • The risk and hassle of dealing with the public from your home is eliminated
  • Auction house charges a commission on top of our commission
  • Results may be disappointing, although you may define a reserve price
  • Goods may not sell
  • Auction house may not accept goods
  • Money can take time to be realised
  • You may have to wait some time for the right auction

We make an offer

There are some classes of goods that we would offer to buy directly from you.

  • Quick no-hassle payment and removal
  • Transparency of price vs goods valuation
  • We cannot offer full market price on the goods as we would then need to sell on
  • We are only interested in certain categories of goods

In practice, the strategy often ends up being a combination of the above methods and we will quote accordingly.

Module Three

The Wrap-Up

With this module, we offer to co-ordinate your move and assist with the settling-in process. The settling-in process could take a few hours or up to a couple of days, depending on the size of the job and the level of involvement you want.

Prior to the move, we would have:

done some space/floor planning, helping you figure out what furniture will fit best in your new space.

arranged for a moving company to professionally pack and transport your belongings to your new home.

On the day of the move, we would:

meet the moving vans at your new home, where we would get busy making it feel like home.

direct movers with the positioning of furniture and favourite objects according to the space-planning.

manage snags that might arise and coordinate such admin as internet setup etc.

unpack, make beds and tidy up

leave you with documentation we have drawn up with you as a record of the value of your assets.

PRICING

Modules have fixed prices based on small, medium and large jobs. We will need to assess the size of your space and the volume of goods before providing a final quotation.

*Note that additional fees are billable for packaging (e.g. bubble wrap/boxes) and transport. We charge a 15% commission for facilitating third-party services, such as moving companies, plumbers or handymen.
